Babysitting Skills Course

** Next course dates to be announced **

Our Babysitting Skills Course is always very popular and offers young people aged 14 years and over the opportunity to gain some valuable skills that will equip them with the confidence and ability to become a responsible babysitter.**

The course is open to boys and girls and aims to prepare them to look after children and babies in a safe and responsible way.

Run over two days, our Developing Babysitting Skills Course a fun and interactive course, with lots of practical hands-on experiences, including caring for some interactive babies bought along by the Willow Tree Centre, a 2-hour First Aid course and the opportunity to play with some real children!

During the course we cover many aspects of babysitting, such as communicating with parents/carers; play skills; safety; first aid; and advertising our new babysitting skills. Much of the course material will be drawn from the British Red Cross ‘Looking After Other People’s Children’ course. Participants will also receive a folder of information and resources.

Our Babysitting Skills Course is accredited by AIM Qualifications (formally Open College Network). It is a Level 1 accreditation that carries 2 AIM credits. In order to achieve this optional accreditation, there will be some further work to do at home after the training days, and each participant will have to submit a portfolio of work that shows how they have achieved the learning outcomes. This can be done via Google Classroom in a digital format, or handwritten on paper for those who prefer this option. Don’t worry – this will not be too difficult, and we will give you all the information that you need to ensure successful completion of the course. We are confident that everyone will be able to pass!

The cost for this course is usually £55 per participant, but thanks to funding we have been able to obtain we are usually able to offer this course at the subsided rate of only £25 per person. If participants wish to have their work submitted for the OCN accreditation there will be an additional charge of £5.

Please note that you do not have to submit work for the accreditation and all participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance for taking an active part in the two training days.

Here’s what some of our previous participants have had to say about the course:

‘Thank you ever so much for the course. I really have learnt a lot, and because I’ve done the course I put it on Facebook and I’ve had 3 new families ask me to babysit which is now a regular thing! Thank you again for the experience!’
‘This course was a great experience and has definitely made me more confident. I have gained some vital life skills.’
‘Just a quick email to say thank you so much for running this great course.  Lauren really enjoyed the day and found it very interesting. Lauren has been working as a babysitter for a while, but I think this course is helping her have confidence in herself and what she has been doing.’
‘I just wanted to say a huge thank you for putting on such a brilliant two day babysitting course! Sarah learnt so much and it has hopefully given her a lot of confidence to look after other people’s children. She also said that the staff were all so lovely and very helpful.’
